Volunteer Eligibility Policy
SITE DIRECTORS:
Must be 18 Years of Age or older
Passionate about improving self-esteem, body esteem, and enjoyment of physical activity in girls.
Pass a background check (over 18) - details below
Act in accordance with the BIO Girls Code of Conduct
Has the time to dedicate to the BIO Girls mission over the course of 9+ months
Characteristics of Successful Site Directors:
Ability to communicate and relate to girls in second through sixth grade
Self-starter who does not procrastinate
Effectively manages a project plan to meet deadlines
Able to overcome challenges, barriers and deal with conflict
Lead a group to a common goal
Effective communication skills with multiple stakeholders
Utilize technology for various purposes
Fundraise for a charitable cause
Not afraid of a ‘no’
MARKETING LEAD:
Must be 18 Years of Age or older
Passionate about improving self-esteem, body esteem, and enjoyment of physical activity in girls.

Has the time to dedicate to the BIO Girls mission over the course of 9+ months
Characteristics of Successful Marketing Leads:
Understand the mission and importance of BIO Girls
Self-starter who does not procrastinate
Clear communication with the Site Director to ensure season milestones are met
Knowledge in use of social media platforms, including scheduling templated Facebook campaigns
Willingness to search out local awareness opportunities and represent BIO Girls
Motivated to capture special moments in photographs to incorporate into local templated BIO Girls posts
MENTORS:
Must have completed 8th grade
Passionate about improving self-esteem, body esteem, and enjoyment of physical activity in girls
Able to communicate and relate to girls aged 7-12
Comfortable leading a small group lesson with three to four BIO Girl participants
Respect the confidentiality of BIO Girls participants
Serve as a positive role model for participants
Act in accordance with the BIO Girls Code of Conduct
Commit to attending at least 10 of the 12 BIO Girls sessions.
Consent to background check (if age 18 or older)
Participate in physical activity portion of programming
Attend mentor orientation and any subsequent trainings
Communicate regularly and in a timely manner with Site Director
JUNIOR MENTORS:
Must have completed 6th grade
Respect the confidentiality of BIO Girls participants
Demonstrate leadership capabilities
Serve as a positive role model for participants
Act in accordance with the BIO Girls Code of Conduct
Commit to attending at least 10 of the 12 BIO Girls sessions.
Consent to background check (if age 18 or older)
Participate in physical activity portion of programming
Attend mentor orientation and any subsequent trainings
Communicate regularly and in a timely manner with Site Director
FITNESS INSTRUCTORS (REQUIRED FOR SOME PROGRAMMING):
18 Years of Age
Passionate about improving self-esteem, body esteem, and enjoyment of physical activity in girls.
Pass a background check (details below)
Act in accordance with the BIO Girls Code of Conduct
Has the time to dedicate to the BIO Girls mission over the course of 12 weeks
Characteristics of a Successful Fitness Instructor:
Ability to community and relate to girls in second through sixth grade
Attend Mentor Orientation and any subsequent trainings
Communicate regularly and in a timely manner with the Site Director
Commit to attending ALL 12 BIO Girls sessions
Experienced and comfortable leading physical activity to a group of 20 to 40 BIO Girls participants in grades two through six
Respect the confidentiality of BIO Girls participants
Serve as a positive role model for participants
TEEN PROGRAM FACILITATORS AND CO-FACILITATORS:
Must be 18 Years of Age or older
Must have a relevant Bachelor’s degree (HDFS, psychology, social work, sociology, education, etc.)
Must have some experience working with teens, mental health training, and/or advanced degree in a relevant field
Passionate about improving body esteem, mental wellness, and self-confidence in teens.

Act in accordance with the BIO Girls Code of Conduct
Has the time to dedicate to the BIO Girls mission over the course of 2-3 months
Characteristics of Successful Facilitators and Co-Facilitators:
Ability to communicate and relate to teens in 7th through 11th grade
Self-starter who does not procrastinate
Effectively manages a project plan to meet deadlines
Able to overcome challenges and barriers and deal with conflict
Lead a group to a common goal
Effective communication skills with multiple stakeholders
Utilize technology for various purposes
Working with youth is a unique privilege and responsibility. For the safety of our participants and volunteers, BIO Girls volunteers must adhere to the following requirements:
Individuals who perform functions or duties that regularly require interaction with minors in a private setting or without direct supervision on‐site must receive a criminal history check;
Employees and volunteers who meet the above criteria and work with youth on an ongoing basis is required to have a new criminal history check once every 12 months and must be valid through the course of the program
For the safety and development of our participants, BIO Girls does not allow volunteers who are or have been:
Accused, arrested, charged or convicted of a crime against children
Convicted of a felony of any kind
Charged with an offense involving a child or minor regardless of date
Charged with a misdemeanor in the last 12 months
A user of illicit drugs; a user of alcohol or controlled substances in an excessive or inappropriate manner; or in treatment for substance abuse. If a substance abuse problem has occurred in the past the applicant must have completed a non-addictive period of at least five years.
Volunteer applicants are asked to disclose any information during the application process related to the information above that would prohibit them from meeting the volunteer requirements and/or prohibit them from working closely with children. Volunteers will not be accepted if information has been falsified during the screening process.
This disclosure requirements contained herein are continuous and BIO Girls Volunteers are required to notify BIO Girls, Inc. if there is a status change in any of the above disclosures. BIO Girls, in its sole discretion, reserves the right to deny a volunteer application or terminate a volunteer at any time.
