Volunteer Highlight — Kelly Edwards
Meet Kelly Edwards
BIO Girls Volunteer in Horace, ND
We’re proud to highlight Kelly Edwards, a long-time BIO Girls volunteer who has been making a lasting impact in Horace, ND, and beyond. With five years of service under her belt—including one year at West Fargo Faith & Journey—Kelly has been a steady and passionate presence in the lives of countless girls.
Kelly shares that her “why” is deeply rooted in her desire to create safe, supportive spaces where young girls can learn to value themselves and grow emotionally, mentally, and socially.
“BIO Girls creates a safe, supportive environment where girls can learn to value themselves and grow emotionally, mentally, and socially. I’ve seen firsthand how impactful it is when a girl realizes her worth, develops resilience, and gains a sense of belonging. It’s always really rewarding to see their smiles & to see them grow year after year as they continue to come back each year.”
Favorite Mantra?
“I truly love all of them, however ‘Learn From Failure’ always creates really great small group conversations. Young girls think any mistake or failure is such a big deal and truly judge themselves for it. It’s so nice for them to know everyone fails at something & that’s what helps us continue to grow and learn. We learn from our mistakes and move on, we do not dwell on past mistakes or failures. When they have reassurance from their mentors that it’s okay to fail, I really do see their shoulders get less tense and they don’t seem to be so hard on themselves.”
Throughout her years as a volunteer, Kelly has witnessed powerful moments of growth, transformation, and trust between mentors and participants.
“It has been such an amazing experience to see the growth of some of the girls from session 1 to the finale. The confidence in themselves increases, they communicate more in their small groups, they run a little faster and they feel safe with their mentors. They truly know we are there for them, believe they can do all things and want to empower them.”
Kelly encourages anyone considering volunteering to take the leap.
“If anyone is on the fence of volunteering, I say go for it! It is such an impactful experience to help our area youth girls & to meet other amazing like minded women who also have a deep passion for our future generation!”
As a mother, a leader, and a champion for the next generation, Kelly shares her heartfelt appreciation for the team behind the program:
“I am beyond thankful for Missy and the team at BIO Girls as they truly ALL care about our community & our future generation of female leaders – so thank you! I know my girls have both been impacted by the amazing education that BIO Girls has put together.”
Thank you, Kelly, for showing up with heart and leading with purpose. Your dedication continues to make BIO Girls a place of belonging, growth, and empowerment—and we’re so grateful for the joy and strength you bring to the program and every girl you serve.
